湖北省博物馆筹建于1953年，是湖北省唯一的省级综合性博物馆，也是全省Zui重要的文物收藏、研究和展示机构，是国家旅游局4A级旅游景区(点)，其前身是建国之初成立的湖北省人民科学馆。
Hubei Provincial Museum was established in 1953. It is the onlyprovincial comprehensive museum in Hubei province, and the mostimportant institution for cultural relics collection, research andexhibition in the province. It is a 4A-level tourist attraction(spot) of National Tourism Administration, and its predecessor wasHubei Provincial People's Science Museum established at thebeginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
1953年3月16日经省人民政府批准，在原科学馆的基础上，成立湖北省博物馆(筹备处)，筹备处位于水陆街，1956年迁至武昌水果湖，1960年迁至风景秀丽的武昌东湖之滨，1963年1月正式更名为湖北省博物馆，3000平方米的陈列楼建成并对外开放；1999年1月，建筑面积5717平方米的编钟馆建成开放；2005年12月，楚文化馆建成开放；2007年9月，新馆综合陈列馆建成开放。
On March 16, 1953, with the approval of the provincial government,Hubei Provincial Museum (Preparatory Office) was established on thebasis of the original Science Museum. The Preparatory Office waslocated in Shuilu Street. In 1956, it moved to Wuchang Fruit Lakeand in 1960, it moved to the scenic East Lake of Wuchang. Theexhibition building of 3000 square meters was built and opened tothe public; In January 1999, the Bianzhong Museum with aconstruction area of 5,717 square meters was completed and openedto the public. In December 2005, Chu Cultural Center was completedand opened to the public. In September 2007, the comprehensiveexhibition hall of the new building was completed andopened.
